TOP GARDENS CHOSEN

Hereford in Bloom’s annual best gardens competition attracted a record number of entries and gave the judges a tough task choosing the winners.

Rita Bishop, one of the judges, said: “We visited some outstanding gardens and were greatly impressed by  the efforts made to enhance the positive impact well kept gardens have on the environment. It also plays a big part in how well Hereford and the local area does in the Britain in Bloom competition.”

The gardens competition, with its three categories  is sponsored by  Radway Bridge Garden Centre   and each winner received a £100  Radway voucher, £50 voucher for the runners-up and £25 for third place. Winners of the back garden class were Jim and Barbara Shutt, Cotts Farm, Hereford; 2nd, Mrs Donahue, Shucknall, 3rd, Luke Jordon, Harvey Road, Hereford; Highly Commended: Mrs Blackman, Peter Amor, Derek Bridges. Front garden: Don and Jane Priestman, Stretton Grandison;  2nd, Mrs Sue Crooke, 3rd, Mrs Diane Rogers. Highly Commended: Mrs Kath Boulson, Mrs Margaret Edwards. Best business garden: Robert and Hilary Markland, South Bank B/B, Hereford, 2nd The Three Horeshoes, 3rd The Barrels. Highly Commended: St Mary’s Church, Cross Keys Inn, The Bay Horse, Langdon Bowdler.
