RESCUING BLACKFRIARS ROSE GARDENS
Blackfriars Rose Gardens is Hereford’s most historic gardens; set in the grounds of the ruins of the 12th century Blackfriars Monastery . The rose garden was planted in 1964 to mark the century of the Hereford and West of England Rose Society. For decades it was cared for the county council but the upkeep ended with austerity and the gardens were abandoned. Two years ago Anne Harbour set up the Friends of Blackfriars Rose Gardens, with the support of Hereford in Bloom, hundreds of new rose trees have been planted and the whole site restored to its glorious best .See the rose gardens in the Bloom Portfolio by clicking on the link.
